41st Annual High School Art Show Celebrated
The 41st Annual High School Art Show was held at the Olympic ESD on March 5, 2014. In an event honoring student creativity, ESD staff, students, parents and teachers from 10 area high schools joined together.
Over 75 people were in attendance and over 20 students took the microphone to explain their art, the motivation and thought behind it. Introduced by Sarah Freitas, Anne Banks the OSPI Art Program Coordinator and Superintendent Greg Lynch welcomed students and advocated for the importance of art in the school system.
Mr. Lynch announced the 7 winners that were named at the regional awards. Their art will advance to the statewide High School Art Show at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Art will be on display at the Old Capital Building from April 7 - May 29. The Awards and Reception will be held on Friday, May 16th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.Congratulations to our regional winners:
Alex Floathe from North Mason High School for his piece titled “Split Personalities”
Arielle Konot from Kingston High School for her piece titled “Amefurikozo – The Rain Spirit”
Emily Miedema from Kingston High School for her piece titled “The Last Leaf”
Kindra Smith from Kingston High School for her piece titled “In the Shadows”
Madison Strong from North Kitsap High School for her piece titled “The Rebellious Egyptian”
Eddy Tracer from Ridgetop Junior High School for his piece titled “Nature’s Reflections”
The winner of the Olympic ESD 114 People’s Choice Award: This piece received the most votes by visitors to our regional show. The student artist receives a $200.00 purchase award and their piece will be professionally framed and added to our High School Art Gallery on permanent display at Olympic ESD 114.
